Community development and Free Software development are, by definition, closely related since they both aim to “increase the re-use, sharing and improvement of software products.”

With this goal in mind, the Drupal community will meet from June 16 to June 19 at Drupal North in Montreal, at Concordia University. Savoir-faire Linux is a proud Bronze partner of this event that will advance Drupal development and best practices.
Drupal is the largest Open Source community in the world, with more than one million members, including 28 000 developpers. Some of them found a home at Savoir-faire Linux.
Recently, Savoir-faire Linux made the strategic choice to add Drupal to its service offering. Some of the projects we’re most proud of include the Web portal of École Polytechnique Montréal (150+ websites), the new Student portal of Paris-Dauphine University, the website of Tourism Laurentides, and the website of Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal.
“Drupal is the best choice for large projects such as microsite factories, and that’s where our expertise at Savoir-faire Linux clearly differentiates us from tradional Web agencies” explains Emmanuel Milou, Free Software Consultant.
Drupal is really a Content Management Framework (CMF), which is much more than a simple Content Management System (CMS). “For Content Management applications that sit on top of a fairly sophisticated Business Process Model, Drupal should be the first option to consider” says Emmanuel.
The roadmap for Drupal 8 doubles down on this strategy by integrating the Symfony2 framework. It offers better configuration management, and a better integration of standard tools and concepts.

The Drupal practice at Savoir-faire Linux
The choice of optionnal modules depends on specific customer needs. As such, Savoir-faire Linux offers diverse services to satisfy those needs:
– Simple and advanced configuration
– Custom-fit development of required modules and themes
– Implementation of advanced development toolchains based on continuous integration and
continuous delivery principles, including Jenkins and the automation of functional testing
– Expertise in resource pooling and microsite factories based on Aegir (allowing the
deployment and management of large networks of Drupal sites)
– Performance and Security Audits
Training Support
Training is essentiel to nurture the growth of developer communities. This is how Savoir-faire Linux supports webmasters and developers.
In particular, Drupal North will include a Code Sprint on Sunday, June 19. According to Maxime Turcotte, Free Software Consultant at Savoir-faire Linux, “it is an excellent and fun way to learn, while helping communities to advance.”
The code sprint is free and open. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of expertise and skill level.
