The Rector of Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) announced yesterday that the Government of Quebec has appointed Christophe Villemer to its Board of Directors along with Mrs. Lise Bissonnette, an author who has been CEO of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) and former director of the independent Montreal daily newspaper, Le Devoir.
« These people stand out due to the richness of their experience and their proven expertise in management, » stated UQAM Rector Robert Proulx in a press release. « Ms. Bissonnette as well as Mr. Villemer enjoy an excellent reputation and strong skills that will be invaluable to the Board of Directors of the University. Both new members will contribute significantly to the development and promotion of UQAM, together with the community of the institution. »
Christophe Villemer spent more than 10 years working in international academic cooperation. From 2004 to 2009 he was CIO of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), where he led an IT policy based on free software. He then further pursued this commitment by joining Savoir-faire Linux as Executive Vice President, from which time he has been a key player in the growth of the company that currently employs 70 people and has an expertise recognized throughout North America.
« Université du Québec à Montréal is an innovative and dynamic institution. I share both the university’s vision and its values, » he says. « That is why I am very happy to contribute my abilities to support the Board, particularly in the international arena and in the field of information technology. »
